University College London (UCL) Faculty of Medical Sciences implemented SparkForms to enhance the delivery of clinical assessments within its medical education programmes. Aimed at improving real-time feedback for students during clinical placements, the digital solution replaced a traditional system that required delayed completion of written feedback via emailed links. SparkForms aligned with UCL's commitment to delivering a modern, student-centred learning experience while simplifying processes for assessors and administrators.
Before SparkForms, assessments were completed in a system designed for postgraduates on one of a large number of forms from email links after the event. Occasionally this led to significant delays, leading to confusion amongst students, inefficiencies and administrative challenges. SparkForms was introduced to streamline these processes, enabling real-time feedback to be captured and shared during assessments. Its user-friendly forms allowed students and assessors to collaborate on feedback discussions immediately, ensuring high accuracy and eliminating delays. Integration with UCL’s curriculum map provided real-time data reporting, reducing administrative workloads and enhancing tracking of student progress.
The implementation of SparkForms transformed UCL’s approach to clinical assessments. Student satisfaction scores relating to assessment improved significantly, rising to over 80%, as the system allowed for meaningful and timely feedback.
Administrative efficiency also improved, with reduced workloads and faster data processing. Real-time tracking enabled proactive student support, while the system’s flexibility ensured UCL was able to customise forms without external dependencies.
Additionally, SparkForms’ compatibility with UCL’s mobile-first education strategy supported students using iPads in clinical environments, further aligning the solution with institutional goals.
